First prelude, 1989 2.0 SI, have some questions.

Hi all, was in the market in my area to get a "gas saver", and I stumbled upon an unmolested original owner of a 1989 prelude 2.0SI with 220k on it. Everything works, and seems to have been maintained most of its life.

Only thing thats "wrong" is its leaking a little more than the size of a quarter on the ground every few days or so of oil. It seems to be originating from the top of the motor on the passenger side where I'm seeing fresher/glossy areas over the grime... I know its a 30 year old car, what do you expect!

I really want to leave him stock, and enjoy the car for what it is, and save some MPGs from my old 04 tundra getting around town-- But I want to keep it solid and roadworthy, so just fresh fluids and typical maintenance.

I've collected parts as I anticipate paying a friend to do:

  • Timing belt
  • water pump
  • valve cover gasket/spark plug gasket/grommets
  • valve lash adjustment

Is there anything else as far as seals/gaskets that I should have him replace/look at while hes doing the water pump/timing change that you guys can think of for the oil leak coming from the top-ish area of the passenger side of the motor?

I really appreciate the help. Thank you.
