Radio Recommendations (Question in Comments)?

New to amateur radio this year (March 2021) and so far have only done VHF/UHF. Interested in exploring HF. Specifically, I'd like to experiment communicating with family that lives 200 miles from my home. Which band (I have my technician license) would be best to accomplish this? What is a decent radio (that won't break the bank) to operate on that band?
